In New Hampshire, anyone over the age of 15-1/2 can learn to drive if they are accompanied by a licensed driver over the age of 25 who is sitting in the seat next to them. All new drivers are also required to pass a vision test and a written Road Rules and Road Signs knowledge test which contains questions on New Hampshire traffic laws, road signs and rules of safe driving. Before a drivers license is issued a new driver must complete 40 hours of supervised behind the wheel practice. Anyone who is over the age of 16 and under the age of 18 will be issued a YOUTH OPERATOR license.

New Hampshire GDL Laws

New Hampshire has a comprehensive graduated driver license system that helps reduce teen driver crashes, injuries and fatalities. This is to gradually introduce driving to new drivers in order to help them develop their driving skills.

Stage 1: Limited Learner's Permit

A new driver must be at least 15 years and 6 months old to apply for a learner’s permit. The licensee must complete 40 hours of driving time, 10 of which should be done at night to be eligible for an intermediate license.

Stage 2: Junior License

Before applying for a junior license, the driver must be at least 16 years old. The nighttime restriction for a junior license is not being allowed to drive between the hours of 1 AM to 5 AM. For the first 6 months, the licensee isn't allowed to have more than 1 passenger under the age of 25.

Stage 3: Full License

In order to get full driving privileges in New Hampshire for removing nighttime driving restrictions, the applicant must be at least 17 years and 1 month old. The minimum age for removing passenger restrictions is 16 years and 6 months.

"What I liked about the course was I was able to visualize the driving test. I was still nervous, but I knew what the driving examiner was looking for and it really helped with my confidence. I don't think I would have passed my first time with out this course."
